I'm a Sports Fanatics, and very much into analyzing all the statistic & details of Sports matches. If you understand well the statistic of a game, you might be able to predict the outcome of the match and/or understand the reason behind each decision of coaches during the game. I'm not saying that you will be able to be a coach like Sir Alex Ferguson or something, but yes, you will be able to understand the game more; and who knows, you may score higher in your EPL Fantasy League or win a few bets for yourself.
