Post-match Statistic: EURO 2012 - Triumph for Denmark and Germany

Gomez’s goal was not enough to save a boring match last night between the two title contestants
Germany and Portugal. Both teams played cautiously and there had been no significant turn of event before Gomez’s header to put Germany in the lead.

Our prediction was not entirely correct, as our correct score did not pan out. However, as we stated in our pre-match preview, if Portugal do not play to their strength,Germany will grab a goal or two (for full details, click HERE). Congratulations to those who followed our betting tips as Germany gave Asian Handicap of 0.25 and was the team to score first turned out to be correct.

Coming back to the match, although grabbing a win, Germany did not show their real character, and once again we saw the lack of a real star. Portugal, on the other hand, continued to rely too much on Ronaldo, who failed to shine last night. Let’s dive in the match statistic

There were total of 4 yellow cards, shared equally by both teams. This wasn’t a good match of Gomez, however people will just remember that he scored the only goal at 72 minutes mark to pave the way for Germany to advance to next round.

In terms of statistic, Germany is slightly better with 9 goals attempt, 3 shots on target and 6 shots off target. Their ball possession is 56% compared to Portugal’s 46%. All in all, it was quite a boring match as there were not many opportunities created by both team. A draw would have been a fairer result. Portugal would have to winDenmark in the second round to keep their hope up.

The earlier match saw the first shock of EURO 2012, as Denmark beat the “Flying Dutchman” 1-0. Robben and team-mates have to blame themselves to waste so many chances. 27 goal attempts, 11 corner kicks and 14 free kicks without a goalNetherlands’ accuracy and effectiveness are questionable. Meanwhile, Denmark had 4 shots on target out of 4 goal attempts, one of which was 24 minutes goal by Michael Krohn-Delhi.

It wasn’t a lucky day for Netherlands as well, as Robben hit the woodwork and they were denied a possible penalty when the ball touched a Danish defender’s hand.

This result will leave Netherlands no choice but to win the last 2 games. Germany andPortugal are both considered tougher opponents compared to Denmark. Van Persie and the team have a lot of work to do after last night’s mishap.
