Post-match statistic: Triumph for Germany and Portugal

36Sports.com, Portugal narrowly grabbed their first win at EURO 2012 in the last few minutes while Netherlands is on the verge of elimination after 1-2 loss against Germany.

Denmark and Portugal both have 3 points, therefore, Germany is still not officially through to next round, and the situation at group B is more complicated than ever. Let's take a look at the statistic and possibilities of group B after last night matches.

1. Portugal vs Denmark

Portugal looking strong after Pep and Postiga putting them ahead 2-0 at 24 and 36 minutes respectively. This forced Denmark to turn to offense, and Bendtner had almost been Portugal's nightmare last night when he scored 2 goals at 41 minutes and 80 minutes to level the game. Valera was Portugal's hero as his goal at 87 minutes secure a 3-2 win for Portugal.

Clearly, Portugal created more chances compared to Denmark, with 15 goals attempt, 9 on target and 6 off target; compared to Denmark's 7 goals attempt and 4 on target. The question is the effectiveness of Portugal's players as Ronaldo, once again, did not do well.

2. Netherlands vs Germany

Mario Gomez was ruthless in front of Netherlands' goal post last night as he score two goals at 24 and 38 minutes. He is currently leading the scoring chart of EURO 2012 with 3 goals in 2 games. Robin Van Persie's goal at 73 minutes was not enough to save Netherlands from a defeat at their neighbor country's hand.

In terms of statistic, the match was even. The key point is that Germany was deadly effective in their offense and defense, while although possessing top scores of Europe this season, Netherlands looked weak at converting their chances.

3. Possibilities

Under normal circumstances, Germany would have been qualified for next round. But Portugal's win over Denmark has put group B to a little bit of complication.

Germany will go next round as top of group B if they draw or win Denmark in the last game. Even if they lose and Portugal does not win against Netherlands, they will go through. If they lose and Portugal wins, there are 3 teams with 6 points: Germany, Portugal and Denmark. Other indicators will come into play to decide which team to go through.

Portugal will go through if they win over Netherlands and Denmark cannot win. Statistically speaking, Netherlands still has a very thin chance of going through next round. They need to beat Portugal with 2 goals difference and hope that Germany wins.
